Homemade CNC Machine Research

Posted by - smd-arq

SMD, along with Designio3D is developing a homemade cnc machine. At first, the machine itself will be made of plywood just for testing that everything can work and then, an aluminum machine will be built. For now, the machine will use a Dremmel as miller and later on, we will upgrade it to a more powerful milling machine.

The design, which is almost finished states that the table of the machine will be based on a modular and demountable system. That will allow us to just place the machine into a big box a move it around to be able to digi-fabricate in (almost) any place. The idea is that the machine will have a creative commons license and the distribution will be open source. We think it would be the best way to contribute to the machining community as anyone would be able to download the plans and modify them as wish.

Stay tuned for more!
